- Sample big — paint A4-sized swatches on at least two walls, look at them morning, noon, and night, then commit.
- Two-colour home paint combinations work best when one is a quiet base and the other is a warm accent on one wall — not when they fight on equal footing.
- Ceiling tone matters more than people think. A ceiling 1–2 shades lighter than the wall makes the room feel taller; the same ceiling colour as the wall makes the room feel like a tunnel.
- Trim white doesn't have to match wall white. Most premium homes use a slightly cooler trim white than wall.
